German startup SAXON Q releases two room-temperature quantum computers based on nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers — the SXQ128 (128 qubits) and SXQ512 (512 qubits). This is the first diamond-based quantum processor to exceed 10 physical qubits.[44]This milestone means that for the first time, a quantum computing hardware roadmap has achieved hundred-qubit-scale room-temperature operation on a non-superconducting / non-ion-trap platform. However, the two-qubit gate fidelity and coherence time of NV centers remain far below fault-tolerance thresholds, leaving a huge gap to practical quantum error correction.
